Broker Canada CMO

In 1989, Kathryn embarked on her insurance career as a personal and commercial lines broker.  Within a few years, she advanced into marketing and account management in insurance programs and complex risks, followed by roles in production and brokerage management.  Her diverse experience led to her developing a profitable book of business and earning the trust of her clients, along with a market reputation for client advocacy, innovation, technical expertise, and a collaborative approach. She later moved into underwriting leadership at Markel, where for 7 years she oversaw a significant regional portfolio, including specialty underwriting, business development, and operations serving multiple product lines. Her leadership was grounded in integrity, transparent communication, and a focus on positive stakeholder outcomes, principles that continue to guide her work today.

As an executive, Kathryn has led cross‑functional initiatives spanning personal and commercial insurance programs, digital transformation, workflow optimization, talent development, and market strategy. She is known for her ability to bring structure to complexity, align stakeholders around a shared vision, and build cultures where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to grow. Her leadership style is inclusive, principled, and rooted in trust.  She sets high standards, communicates with clarity, and empowers teams to deliver exceptional results.

Kathryn’s work is driven by a belief that strong culture and strong strategy are inseparable. She champions women’s advancement in insurance, mentors emerging leaders, and advocates for modern, ethical, people‑first business practices. Her approach blends analytical thinking with creativity, whether she is shaping brand identity, designing insurance solutions or operational frameworks, or guiding teams through change.

In addition to empowering and elevating teams, Kathryn has prioritized her own professional development by earning her CAIB, CRM, and CIP designations, as well as serving on the board of the Insurance Institute of BC, currently as 2nd Vice-President.

Outside of work, Kathryn is energized by travel, photography, cooking, and time spent with family and friends. She is an avid diver, a lifelong learner, and someone who brings curiosity and optimism into everything she does.
